When was the last time you resolved to take better care of your eyes? It’s SO important to start a good vision protection regimen — after all, we use our eyes to read, drive, socialize…explore the world! This month, focus on your peepers to avoid eye health problems in the future, starting with these top tips. (Good news! Most of these will not only help your eyes, but your overall well being!)
See your eye doctor.
Start by making an appointment for an eye exam with one of the experts at Cohen’s Fashion Optical, who will not only see if your eyeglasses prescription has changed, but will also check for common eye health problems.
Eat a healthy diet.
You’ve heard the buzzword – Superfoods! Powerful antioxidants in Superfoods like spinach, broccoli, strawberries and salmon help protect your eyes by absorbing and controlling free radicals that can damage the eyes.
Pay attention to warning signs like dry eyes, itchy eyes, or blurred vision. Dry eyes are often caused by a lack of moisture on the eye surface, and can cause stinging, pain, redness and eye fatigue (think screen overexposure!)
Most of the time, itchy eyes are caused by some type of allergy. You can avoid allergens by limiting your exposure to those things you may be most sensitive.
As for blurred vision causes, it’s often refractive errors — nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism that are to blame. But blurred vision can also stem from chronic dry eyes, migraine headaches, use of certain medicated eye drops, or wearing contact lenses longer than prescribed.
If you experience any of these or other symptoms that don’t go away, it’s important to see your eye doctor or an optometrist who can diagnose and provide treatment to avoid permanent damage.
Splurge on new specs!
After your exam, check out Cohen’s wide variety of eyeglasses! Not only do they have popular, designer glasses brands like DKNY, Lacoste and Calvin Klein, you might find something in their own affordable collection. Show off your own style!
Oh, and remember: Wear sunscreen.
