Oh yes, it’s that time again. Back to School. And that means – shopping, backpacks, school supplies, and of course, a standout pair of eyeglasses.
Let’s face it; the prospect of spending our coveted summer days shopping can be a bit daunting. At Cohen’s, making an appointment online for my kids annual eye exam and eyeglasses is super easy. And with their one-hour service, you can be in and out quickly!

This year, brands like Nike, Ray Ban, Lily Pulitzer and Vera Bradley are showcasing some great new styles. Many kids today want their eyeglasses to look like adult styles, but with a touch of kid-approved fun. They love color, color and more color, with cool accents and details. Plastic eyeglasses frames are most popular. But most of all, kids want their eyeglasses frames to show who they are. And they’re not afraid to stand out!

For girls, vibrant, “candy” colors and edgier, trendy shapes like Wayfarers, cat eyes and squares are the rage (yes, they still love the look of over-sized plastic eyeglasses!) Colors blocking accents and highly patterned designs give today’s girls a little sophistication with just the right amount of girly attitude.

For boys who want to showcase their individuality, pop colors like electric blue, green and red are very popular this year. These are often seen on the interior of the temple, making it easy for boys to show some style a little more subtlety. Boys looking for a sleeker look will lean towards neutrals like black, navy and brown with accents like camouflage and racing stripes for added fun. These can work in traditional shapes or more studious round shapes. For younger boys you will see some styles incorporating splatter paint or character references. And since boys can be a bit more rough and tumble, there are different materials like memory metals that can retain their shape if twisted or bent. Nike, Converse and Adidas are popular brands for boys (and parents!) for their durability and flexibility.

Now that you know what to look for in kids’ eye-wear this year, don’t forget about the all important eye exam. Cohen’s specialists are experts when it comes to kids eye health. Did you know that 25 percent of school-aged children have vision problems? An annual comprehensive exam can help identify any vision problems early on. Cohen’s friendly, knowledgeable opticians will help your children understand why it’s important to take care of their vision and answer any questions you both may have!

A trip to Cohen’s can easily be part of your back to school shopping extravaganza. Find a location near you, and make an appointment for your kids’ eye exams and eyeglasses (don’t forget to check out their special offers, and bring a coupon with you!)
